Frederick Rolfe, who styled himself “Fr. Rolfe” and “Baron Corvo”, is famous for Hadrian the Seventh (1904), a fantasy in which a downtrodden writer is unexpectedly elected Pope, and infamous for his scandalous “Venice letters”.
